PM KUSUM Yojana

What is PM KUSUM Scheme?
The PM-KUSUM Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) is a government initiative launched in 2019 to encourage the adoption of solar energy in the agriculture sector. The scheme is designed to provide farmers with a reliable source of power for irrigation, reduce their dependence on costly diesel and inconsistent grid electricity, and create opportunities for additional income through the sale of surplus solar power.
It has three main components: installation of grid-connected solar power plants on barren or cultivable land, deployment of stand-alone solar pumps to replace diesel pumps, and solarization of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps so that farmers can meet their irrigation needs with solar energy while also supplying excess power to the grid.
By reducing energy costs, turning unused land into productive assets, and offering farmers a way to earn from renewable power, the PM-KUSUM Yojana supports rural prosperity and contributes to India’s clean energy transition.
